Learning Stage

Thu Nov 29, 2007, 5:55 AM
I'm a fulltime IT Programmer who got a bit tired with IT industry (the troubleshooting side of IT). I still keep my daytime job, but whenever i'm free, i'll pursue what i love most - arts + stories + manga.

i've participated in 1 story writing competition before for ANIMAX...but that was in essay format. I intend to draw my story out in the near future.

That's why i'm learning how to draw. My skill still sux though....a lot of rooms for improvement. I'll only post up some "decent" artwork here during my learning stage.

Do feel free to comment.

p/s...to some, i might be a bit old at 25 to learn the trade..but well, it's my hobby and i believe one is never too old to learn something and to pursue his dreams.

Cheers!

Hello Alvin!
Wow! If you just started drawing-- Your work is good! :painter:
Have you thought about taking life drawing classes?
Most artists I know, strive to improve their artistic skills all the time. 8-) Keep a positive attitude about your art. If you can get some drawing instruction, you will see your artistic skill improve quickly!
Have faith in yourself! :w00t!:

thanks Zage. I started drawing back in primary school.....but nothing on human (you know..small kids' art. i did draw some Dragonball though).

only 2 or 3 months ago, i've been learning from a Dummy book on how to draw manga characters. But those were on papers. Just last month, i bought a pen tablet and started learning how to draw with pen tablet. The feel is kinda different.

I cannot take any classes since i'm away from my country (13 hours flight away). :( I can only read books and online materials.

Check to see if there any local art or drawing clubs in your area. :sherlock: Sometimes there are drawing groups that will gather for a life drawing club once a week. It might not be the same as an instructional class, but, you can still learn allot. :painter:
There are allot of great resources online. Here on DA, there are some great tutorials for drawing and computer tablet art.
Books are great to study. Keep working at your art! =D

You're never too old to start something new! It just takes more work when you're older... :)

I like your drawings; I'm also a 25 yr old trying to learn how to draw better... Good luck!

Aww, you're never too old to do what you like! and you're not old. You're still pretty young and you have a whole life to improve...

I'm almost 20 and I'm trying also to draw better, because right now I sucks. I used to draw a lot when I was a kid, but then I stop doing it for... like 5 years, and now it's giving me headaches hahaha

You just need to practice and practice whenever you have free time... Besides, right now, you're doing it great! :aww:

hahhaa, you're funny. u said as if u r much older, but u r much younger. :P

yeap, practice more - that's the requirement. but nowadays i don draw tat much. yet to get my sketchbook back. will jz doodle on some waste paper. working full time + practice how to draw is not easy. but it's not impossible.
